I had the opportunity to lead the redesign of the Season 3 Gears Esports logo. This was a complete overhaul in look and feel. Gears Esports wanted something unique to them, while still feeling like it was Gears. The two skull split - human (COG) and non-human (Swarm) speaks to the competitive versus nature of esports.
This process actually started in 2017. Prior to that, Gears Esports (then known as Gears Pro Circuit) relied on a heavily rendered, 3D version of the logo, which didn't always work across all media and sizes. 2017 was an interim step, in the process of simplifying the identity, but it no longer said "Gears", which brings us to what we have today – a clean mark that displays well across a variety of media and sizes but still feels like the Gears of War franchise. I also developed a complete usage style guide to send out to partners and for use internally.
